Help Save Thames Barrier Park!

High density building threatens the 'Thames Barrier Park' in Royal Docks.

Award winning French Landscape architect 'Allain Provost' won the international competition to design the park which first opened in 2000. The park design is modern and contemporary, paying tribute to the sites previous industrial maritime heritage.

In October 2007, outline planning application was put forward for a high density development surrounding and adjacent to Thames Barrier Park.

The current proposed design to be known as 'Barrier Park East' is architecturally barren, unsympathetic to the existing residential developments and compromises the original symmetry of the existing park design.

Thames Barrier Park, the first new London park in London for over 50 years is a community resource that should be preserved and extended to accommodate with the influx of new residents from the planned development of Silvertown quays and visitors to the new London Aquarium.

The park is also home to a species of endangered beetles and this development threatens their survival.

An alternative proposal is being put forward that the development should be a compromise of park extension and residential development along silvertown way.
For more information on how you can support the park extension and force the developers to refine their planning application you can visit the information site : Barrier Park East Information

Welcome to London's Royal Docks

The Royal Docks comprise three docks in east London - the Royal Albert Dock the Royal Victoria Dock and the King George V Dock built between 1880 and 1921 on riverside marshes in the London borough of Newham. The three docks collectively formed the largest enclosed docks in the world with a water area of nearly 250 acres (1 kmē) and an overall estate of 1100 acres (4 kmē). Constructed to provide berths for large vessels that could not be accommodated further upriver. The Royal Docks were finally closed for shipping in 1981. The closure brought hardship to Silvertown and the local area. The London Development Corporation was placed in charge of the area with responsibility of bring about regeneration. City Airport was constructed in 1986, the runway sited on cleared what were grain warehouses and cranes. With numerous dockside residential and office developments under construction the future looks brighter. more history...

NightHawk parking Control

Sept 2007 : Tradewinds residents are now rid of NightHawk Parking. After two years of profiteering at the expense of residents, the residents association instructed their management company to suspend and terminate car clamping company Nighthawk's contract. With fines starting from Ģ141 and an un-responsive dispute procedure they won't be missed said one resident.

Note there is no obligation to pay charges to private companies, they base their "demands" on contract or trespass law (not criminal law or decriminalised parking regulations) and have NO powers under the Road Traffic act to force you to declare who was driving the car at the time of the alleged trespass or breach of contract, i.e. the person who trespassed or breached the alleged contract. This is NOT a PENALTY CHARGE NOTICE as prescribed in law, even if it purports to be so, it is an invoice for alleged breach of accepted contractural terms or an offer to settle before court for damages due to trespass.

In Scotland, wheel-clamping on private land is illegal. It was banned by the case of Black v Carmichael 1992 SCCR 709, when wheel-clamping was found to constitute extortion and theft.
